Practice Nurses
The maximum availability of appointments to see the nurses is during the morning surgeries but there are also some appointments during afternoons. The patient should indicate the purpose of their appointment when making appointments to see the nurse, so that the receptionist can allocate the appropriate length of appointment.
The health care assistant is trained to carry out new patient health checks, phlebotomy, the giving of lifestyle advice and routine blood pressure monitoring. Patients will normally be allocated to the health care assistant for these services.
Practice nurses provide first line management of previously diagnosed chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma and hypertension.
Nursing services include: -

These vaccinations are routinely offered to patients as an aid in the prevention
of Influenza and Pneumonia. It is particularly important that patients with
reduced immunity to acquired infections have these vaccinations. This includes:
Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Diabetic Patients,
Patients with Asthma, Patients with CHD, Over 65s
The consequences for these patients in having flu or pneumonia may be much more
serious than for a healthy patient.
Training Of Doctors and Nurses
From time to time we may have medical or nursing students who need to spend time observing doctors and nurses during consultations, as part of their final training. If we have a student in attendance at the surgery all patients for a particular doctor or nurse will be individually asked whether they are happy for a student to sit in on their consultation.
In Aug 2007 the surgery became a training practice for doctors who are medically qualified, and will complete their training as general practitioners here, under supervision.
