Appointments
Morning Surgery
An individual appointment system based on 10 minute appointments is in operation in accordance with the NHS recommended Advanced Access system and appointments are allocated with the object of seeing patients within 48 hours, if that is what the patient requires. Appointments are available each weekday to see the doctors or nurses between 8.20am and 11.40am.
Afternoon Surgery
An individual appointment system based on 10 minute appointments is in operation in accordance with the NHS recommended Advanced Access system and appointments are allocated with the object of seeing patients within 48 hours, if that is what the patient requires. Appointments are available to see the doctors or nurses between 2.00pm and 5.40pm each weekday afternoon except Wednesdays.
Home Visits
These should be requested before 10.00am if possible and should only be for patients who are too ill to attend the surgery. Requests for home visits will be received at other times of the day and a doctor will always discuss the requirement for a visit with the patient; depending on the individual circumstances the doctor may carry out a home visit, allocate an emergency appointment at the surgery for the same day, ascertain that A&E is better suited to deal with this particular problem or facilitate a visit to a local NHS Walk In Centre. Your doctor can see four or five patients in the time it takes to see one on a home visit.
Emergencies
Calls outside normal working hours (which includes Wednesday afternoons) are dealt with by MasterCall (the out of hours medical emergency service contracted by the Central Manchester PCT). MasterCall’s telephone number is 0161 476 2299. You can also contact NHS Direct (the nurse-led 24 hour confidential helpline) on 0845 4647. The NHS Direct Online website www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk also provides advice and information on illness and health.
Depending on the circumstances patients may have a home visit by a doctor, receive telephone advice from a doctor or specialist nurse, be advised to attend the Manchester Royal Infirmary A&E Department or the Withington Community Hospital NHS Walk In Centre or to attend the A&E Department of their nearest hospital.
Out-of-hours requests to see or contact a doctor (emergency calls between 6pm and 8am weekdays, Wednesday afternoons from 1pm or from 6pm Friday to 8am Monday and all Bank Holidays) should only be for true medical emergencies.

Preference For A Particular Practitioner
When making an appointment for a doctor or for nursing services, patients should advise the receptionist if they have a particular preference as to whom they see. Where possible staff will try to accommodate patient preferences but on occasion it will mean waiting a little longer for an appointment for example if a doctor is on holiday. Reception staff will always advise patients of any longer wait for an appointment. If there are particular reasons why a patient needs to see the same doctor always then this can be noted in the patient records but patients will still need to remind reception staff of this when making appointments.
